SAS cancels several flights due to high fuel prices
SAS has been forced to cancel several flights, primarily in Norway, due to rising fuel prices, affecting over 100 domestic flights and including some international routes.
SAS has announced the cancellation of several flights as a consequence of surging fuel prices impacting the airline industry across Europe. The majority of the cancellations are concentrated in Norway, where over 100 domestic flights have been grounded. Additionally, the airline has also noted that high fuel costs are influencing other flight routes, which could lead to further travel disruptions.
In a statement, SAS's communications chief, Alexandra Lindgren Kaoukji, confirmed that recent cancellations include flights from Copenhagen Airport to Oslo Gardermoen Airport. She emphasized that the airline has made limited short-term adjustments to its schedule to address what has been characterized as a fuel crisis affecting the entire European continent. Further, SAS intends to consolidate capacity on routes with available alternatives in order to maintain the most stable travel options for its customers.
The situation is compounded by ongoing strikes in Germany that have led to additional flight cancellations. While some of the affected flights are due to the fuel price hikes, the dual challenges of labor disputes and increased operational costs place considerable strain on the airline, prompting SAS to re-evaluate its operations and potentially reconsider pricing strategies to cope with these heightened costs in the aviation sector.
