Customers Have Received a Number of Scam Emails

Customers of Síminn have been targeted with numerous scam emails, prompting the company to issue a warning against clicking on unknown links.

On March 17, 2026, it was reported that customers of Síminn, an Icelandic telecommunications company, have received a significant number of scam emails that bypassed standard email filters. One customer reported receiving over thirty similar scam emails, leading Síminn to take action by warning its customers. The emails contain messages urging recipients to click on unknown links which claim to activate secure encryption, thereby redirecting users to fraudulent websites if clicked upon.

Síminn has communicated through its website, reminding customers to refrain from engaging with suspicious links or buttons in these emails, which could potentially expose their personal data to cyber threats. The specific alert included elements that stated, “Warning: Unsecured internet connection - Click here to activate secure encryption.” This proactive stance aims to protect users from falling victim to these phishing attempts, which appear realistic and could easily deceive unsuspecting individuals.

In response to these incidents, Síminn is collaborating with CERT-IS, the Computer Emergency Response Team for Iceland, to take further measures such as closing down the fraudulent domains and blocking the receipt of these scam emails. The ongoing effort highlights the importance of cybersecurity awareness among customers and showcases Síminn's commitment to protecting its clients from emerging digital threats.
