Report confirms 'chumbinho' in acai cup ingested by young man who fell ill in Ribeirão Preto; girlfriend is a suspect

A police report confirmed the presence of a rat poison known as 'chumbinho' in an acai cup that a young man drank before falling ill, implicating his girlfriend as the main suspect.

A recent investigation by the Civil Police in Brazil revealed that a young man in Ribeirão Preto was poisoned after consuming an acai drink that contained 'chumbinho', a type of rat poison. The victim, Adenilson Ferreira Parente, 27, was hospitalized in an Intensive Care Unit but has since recovered. The police have stated that this finding serves as critical evidence in the ongoing investigation, confirming that someone intentionally tried to harm him.

The main suspect in this case is Larissa de Souza, the victim's girlfriend. While the findings of the police report indicate malicious intent, de Souza has denied any involvement when she was questioned by authorities on February 19. The detective leading the case, José Carvalho de Araújo, emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stating that the presence of the poison makes it evident that an attempt on Parente's life was made.

The Civil Police are working towards concluding their investigation soon, which may include further interviews and analysis of the evidence presented. This incident not only raises concerns about domestic violence due to the intimate relationship between the suspect and the victim but also highlights public safety, particularly regarding food tampering incidents in Brazil.
