The Kremlin hopes to send 114 thousand Russian citizens to the occupied territories of Ukraine by 2045
Russia's authorities have devised plans to significantly increase the population in occupied Ukrainian territories by sending thousands of Russian citizens and developing the infrastructure.
Russian authorities have crafted elaborate plans involving 15 master plans and 10 territorial development projects aimed at increasing the population in occupied territories of Ukraine by 67,100 and 46,700 people respectively by the year 2045. These plans, outlined by the state development corporation VEB.RF, include extensive construction projects, promising over 13 million square meters of housing, as well as numerous educational and healthcare facilities including 140 kindergartens and around 100 medical institutions.
In addition to residential and commercial infrastructure, the plans call for significant improvements to transportation networks. This includes the construction or renovation of approximately 3,270 kilometers of roads, nearly 430 kilometers of railway lines, and the establishment of 19 stations, as well as the reconstruction of four airports. In an effort to bolster economic activity in the region, the plans foresee the creation of 25 industrial parks, eight machine-building companies, and several mining and construction materials factories, all to be developed with the participation of 225,400 workers.
The intended developments also extend to the tourism sector, with ambitious goals set for 2044 to attract 9.4 million tourists to these regions. This extensive infrastructure and population augmentation initiative appears to be part of a broader strategy to consolidate Russian influence and control over the annexed areas of Ukraine, signaling long-term plans despite international sanctions and criticism. Such moves are likely to intensify geopolitical tensions and complicate any potential resolutions to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
