The forum 'Right to a Dignified Death' will seek answers to fears of death
A forum discussing the right to a dignified death will address the fears surrounding death from various perspectives at the University of Latvia.
On March 18, a fourth discussion forum titled 'Right to a Dignified Death' will be held at the University of Latvia's Small Hall, organized by the foundation 'Hospiss LV'. This year's central theme will be 'Fear', which will be explored through the lenses of patients, relatives, and medical professionals. The aim of the forum is to foster an open and compassionate dialogue about how fear impacts decision-making and the quality of care at the end of life.
As highlighted by Ilze Zosule, a board member of 'Hospiss LV', the forum aims to find ways to reduce the barriers created by fear so that every person with a terminal illness can receive support and leave life with dignity. The event will be moderated by Edijs Bošs, a journalist from TV3 and a lecturer at RSU, who along with Zosule will guide attendees through the day's proceedings. Notable speakers include Dāvis Sīmanis, a director and the rector of the Latvian Academy of Culture, who will present a lecture exploring 'Fear as a condition for seeking longevity', connecting to themes of mortality addressed in his latest film 'Frankenstein 2.0'.
The forum reflects an increasing societal awareness of end-of-life issues and the importance of having discussions around death and dying. By addressing fears and misconceptions surrounding death, the event strives to enhance understanding and support for those facing terminal illness, ultimately pushing for a shift towards a more compassionate healthcare approach regarding death and dying in Latvia.
