Þorsteinn takes over the chairmanship from Fanney Birna
Þorsteinn Jónsson has recently succeeded Fanney Birna Jónsdóttir as chairman of the Reykjavík branch of the Red Cross in Iceland.
In a recent leadership change, Þorsteinn Jónsson, a former vehicle manufacturer and technician at the University of Iceland's Science Institute, has taken over as chairman of the Capital Region branch of the Red Cross in Iceland. This transition occurred during a significant board reshuffle announced at the annual meeting held on March 12. Notably, Fanney Birna Jónsdóttir, the outgoing chair, has passed the reins to Þorsteinn amid these changes, indicating a new direction for the organization.
The annual meeting also saw the addition of new members to the main board, with Auðbjörg Ólafsdóttir stepping in alongside two newly elected deputies, Fríða Björk Ingvarsdóttir and Jón Sigurðsson. This reshuffle represents a strategic effort to bring fresh perspectives to the organization and ensure effective leadership moving forward. The departure of several board members, including the previous chair Fanney Birna, Ali Tasheen Ali Ali, and Indriði Þröstur Jónsson, highlights a significant turnover in the leadership structure.
Additionally, the annual meeting recognized the hard work of volunteers within the organization. Awards were given to the Volunteers of the Year, honoring individuals such as Halldóra Kristín Guðjónsdóttir, who has been actively involved in social projects for the Red Cross, and Anika Noack of Frú Ragnheiði. Such acknowledgments emphasize the Red Cross's commitment to highlighting the essential contributions of its volunteers while transitioning to new leadership that may revitalize its efforts in the community.
