An Explosive Fire Spread from a Company’s Cardboard Box – CEO has Requests for Authorities
The CEO of Pyrokratia Oy comments on the company's recovery following a significant fire incident caused by a faulty fireworks container.
Pyrokratia Oy's CEO Juhani Törmänen has provided an update on the company's recovery from a fire incident that occurred in November. Despite the circumstances, the company managed to navigate through the year's end season quite normally, indicating resilience in their operations. The employees present during the fire have shown remarkable recovery from the traumatic experience, highlighting the supportive environment within the company.
Following the incident, the Safety and Chemicals Agency, Tukes, released a report examining the cause of the fire. While the agency could not determine a single definitive cause, it suggested that the explosive fire was likely triggered by a damaged firework during transportation or handling. The incident unfolded when an employee inspected a cardboard box containing unused professional fireworks returned from France, which were packed inadequately, allowing for movement during transport.
Furthermore, the issue was exacerbated by the fact that five storage containers were open for inventory purposes at the time, facilitating the spread of the fire from one container to another. Törmänen generally agrees with the findings of the report, pointing towards the need for improved safety measures in handling such potentially dangerous materials in the future, and he has made requests to authorities to better regulate these operations.
