OTE: Commercial availability of fiber optic services begins as part of the UFBB project โ€“ Ultra-high speeds in semi-urban and rural areas

OTE Group has launched commercial fiber optic services as part of the Ultra-Fast Broadband (UFBB) project, providing internet speeds up to 1Gbps in several regions of Greece.

The OTE Group has initiated the commercial rollout of its fiber optic services within the framework of the Ultra-Fast Broadband (UFBB) project. This initiative aims to deliver internet connectivity with speeds reaching up to 1Gbps, which is now available both wholesale and retail in the regions of Messinia and Rodopi. By the end of March, similar services will be introduced in the Drama, Evros, and Corinthia prefectures, further expanding their reach across Greece in the coming months, including areas in Attica, Euboea, Fthiotida, and Chania.

As the UFBB project advances, the infrastructure for fiber optic services will gradually become available across the country, ensuring that even semi-urban and rural regions benefit from ultra-high-speed internet. It is projected that by the end of the year, over 250,000 lines will be constructed, making services commercially accessible to approximately 150,000 households and businesses. This infrastructure project highlights a significant investment in telecommunications in Greece, enhancing connectivity and opportunity in less densely populated areas.

The UFBB project is recognized as one of the largest public-private partnership telecommunications projects in Europe. By facilitating high-speed Internet access to underserved areas, it addresses the digital divide between urban and rural locales, aiming to boost local economies and improve the quality of life for residents by providing them with reliable and fast internet services.
