Tesla driver Heikki takes Helsinki to court
Heikki Laakkonen, a Tesla driver from Espoo, is suing the city of Helsinki for damages after his car was damaged at a construction site.
Heikki Laakkonen, an Espoo resident and Tesla driver, has decided to sue the city of Helsinki for compensation after his vehicle was damaged at a construction site in Hakaniemi. According to Laakkonen, during a rainy day, he was focused on navigating through the intersection and did not notice a pothole, which resulted in significant damage to his carโs front bumper. The estimated repair cost from the service center was around 1,600 euros.
Despite his initial concern for the car's battery, Laakkonen discovered the damage underneath the bumper and sought compensation from the city of Helsinki. His claim was denied, along with an appeal he submitted, with the city justifying its decision by stating that the construction site was properly marked. They emphasized that in order for a compensation claim to be valid, the driver must prove negligence on the part of the road or street authority.
Laakkonen believes he has sufficient evidence, including photos and the name of a witness, to support his claim. However, he interprets the city's rejection as a dismissal of his evidence. This case could highlight the responsibilities of municipal authorities in ensuring road safety and the complexities involved in obtaining compensation for damages caused by municipal work environments.
