Canvas ballot box and voting records of Juscelino Kubitschek are among historical pieces in RR museum
A museum in Boa Vista, Roraima, showcases historical electoral items, including a canvas ballot box used until the 1990s and records from the election of President Juscelino Kubitschek.
In Boa Vista, Roraima, a regional electoral museum called Espaço Memória is highlighting the history of elections in Brazil's newest state with a collection of unique artifacts. Among these is a brown canvas ballot box that was in use until the 1990s, which holds significant historical value as it was used during the election of Ottomar Pinto, Roraima's first governor. The exhibit also features modern electronic voting machines, illustrating the evolution of voting technology in the region.
The museum serves as an educational space for visitors, allowing them to explore the diverse history of electoral processes in Roraima, which marks its 38th anniversary as a state in 2026. The artifacts on display tell the story of how voting has evolved over the years, from traditional methods to the modern electronic systems currently in place.
Open to the public on weekdays, from 8 AM to 2 PM, the Espaço Memória is located on Presidente Juscelino Kubitscheck Street in the São Pedro neighborhood of Boa Vista. This initiative not only preserves local history but also engages citizens in understanding their electoral rights and the importance of participation in democratic processes.
