L. Kasčiūnas: the updated National Security Strategy could be stronger, we have prepared our own version
L. Kasčiūnas emphasized that the updated National Security Strategy of Lithuania lacks a philosophical foundation and expressed the readiness to propose improvements during discussions in the Seimas.
L. Kasčiūnas, speaking to journalists ahead of a parliamentary session, remarked that the current document outlining Lithuania's National Security Strategy can be strengthened. He pointed out that the present strategy does not encapsulate a fundamental approach related to the country's decision to defend itself over a period. This philosophical grounding is deemed essential, and he plans to propose a new variant of the strategy during upcoming discussions in the Seimas.
Kasčiūnas highlighted that the updated National Security Strategy prepared by the Ministry of National Defense includes critical priorities such as funding for defense, transatlantic relations, civil defense, protection of critical infrastructure, strengthening intelligence agencies, and development of military capabilities. However, he argued that the lack of a philosophical basis in the current strategy detracts from its effectiveness and that his team is prepared to present a set of concrete proposals that will be registered for legislative discussion.
The emphasis on a strong philosophical basis reflects the changing security landscape in Lithuania, particularly in response to regional threats. By initiating a debate on enhancing the strategy, Kasčiūnas is advocating for a more robust defense posture that aligns with the evolving geopolitical context, aiming to fortify national security while emphasizing Lithuania’s commitment to self-defense and comprehensive defense strategies in collaboration with allies.
