Democrats and Conservatives in the Seimas Plan to Support A. Drigoto's Candidacy for KT Judges

Lithuanian political factions express support for A. Drigoto's candidacy for the Constitutional Court judgeship in a recent parliamentary meeting.

The Democratic faction 'For Lithuania' in the Seimas, led by Lukas Savickas, has announced positive feedback regarding A. Drigoto's candidacy for the Constitutional Court, stating that they do not have any significant objections to the candidate. Savickas highlighted that the faction conducted a meeting where many inquiries were made, but he emphasized that there were no notable negative opinions regarding Drigoto's nomination, indicating a consensus within their ranks.

Meanwhile, Laurynas Kasčiūnas, the leader of the Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats (TS-LKD), expressed confidence that an absolute majority of his party's faction would support Drigoto's candidacy. He described a productive and constructive meeting during which he anticipated that most of his colleagues would back Drigoto, pointing out that without their signatures, Drigoto would not be in the position to be nominated. This alignment from both political parties suggests a strong bipartisan support for Drigoto's appointment to the Constitutional Court.

This development follows a presentation by the Speaker of the Seimas, Juozas Olekas, who introduced Drigoto's candidacy to the parliament last week. Olekas praised Drigoto's extensive experience and qualifications, asserting that he meets all the necessary criteria for the role, thus reinforcing the perceived suitability of the candidate among key political figures in Lithuania. The outcome of the vote will be significant, potentially impacting the future of the Constitutional Court in Lithuania and the judicial landscape as a whole.
