Graduates from the University of the West of Santa Catarina had to organize their own graduation ceremony in a mere nine hours after the event was canceled by the hired company one day prior.
Graduates of law and psychology from the University of the West of Santa Catarina (Unoesc) in Pinhalzinho were left in shock when they learned, just one day before their scheduled graduation ceremony, that the event company they hired had canceled the festivities worth R$ 145,000. The ceremony was set for a Saturday, and the sudden cancellation forced students, faculty, family, and friends to scramble to put together a makeshift celebration within a daunting nine-hour window. This organized effort showcased an inspiring community spirit as they united to ensure that the graduates could still celebrate their achievements.
In the wake of the cancellation, Andresa Pinheiro, the president of the graduation committee, expressed her deep frustration and disappointment at the situation, particularly because she had been the initial contact with the event company. Pinheiro conveyed a palpable sense of failure in not being able to secure the event as planned, emphasizing the emotional toll this experience has taken on the graduates. She stated that they had been led to believe everything was proceeding as planned until the very last moment, only to face an unexpected and disheartening cancellation.
The company in question, Pontual Formaturas e Eventos, has come under scrutiny as the local Civil Police begin an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the cancellation. Authorities are reviewing documents to determine if any criminal activities took place and will be interviewing those involved over the coming week.
