UP: Who is BDS student Harish Ali who was arrested by ATS? Had contact with ISIS
The Uttar Pradesh ATS arrested BDS student Harish Ali in Moradabad for allegedly being linked to an online ISIS module.
The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested Harish Ali, a BDS student from Saharanpur, during a raid in Moradabad on charges of being connected to an online ISIS module. Harish reportedly came into contact with the terrorist organization while preparing for the NEET exam in Rajasthan. He was active on encrypted apps like 'Session' and 'Discord,' where he operated groups under fake names to brainwash youth into extremist ideologies. Authorities noted that he was using a VPN to conceal his identity and was in direct contact with foreign handlers plotting against India.
Investigations by the ATS have uncovered solid leads regarding Harish's funding through cryptocurrency, which is currently under detailed scrutiny. He had created a secret group named 'Al Ittehad Media Foundation,' where he distributed ISIS propaganda magazines like 'Dabiq' and 'Al-Naba.' This digital network is being watched closely as it appears to have been involved in radicalizing and recruiting young individuals, indicating a broader problem of online radicalization among the youth in India.
The case raises serious concerns about digital extremism and the recruitment of vulnerable individuals by terrorist organizations operating online. As the investigation unfolds, security agencies are tracking more than half a dozen other suspects believed to be part of Harish's digital network. This situation highlights the need for heightened surveillance and counter-terrorism strategies targeting online platforms where recruitment and propaganda efforts thrive, particularly amid rising tensions related to such extremist activities.
