The Forest Service invites schools to replace phone calls with birdsong
The Forest Service of Lithuania has launched an educational initiative encouraging schools to replace traditional phone ringing with birdsong in celebration of International Day of Forests.
Just ahead of International Day of Forests celebrated on March 21, the Forest Service of Lithuania has announced an educational initiative titled 'Ulba čiulba mokykla'. This project encourages schools to replace the conventional sound of phone calls with the cheerful sounds of birdsong to promote awareness and appreciation of nature. This effort aligns with the global recognition of the importance of forests and biodiversity.
Initially launched two years ago, the 'Ulba čiulba mokykla' project aims to foster a connection between students and the natural world. This year, the initiative is expanding its reach beyond Lithuania's borders, with schools from Poland and Latvia joining the movement. This expansion highlights a regional recognition of the significance of forests and the role they play in educational settings, encouraging a collaborative approach to environmental education.
The implications of this initiative are significant, as it not only aims to educate young people about the importance of forests but also encourages them to participate actively in preserving their environment. By integrating the sounds of nature into the school environment, the Forest Service hopes to foster a greater understanding and appreciation of biodiversity among students, ultimately leading to a more environmentally conscious generation.
