31 lakh challans settled in Lok Adalat, ₹27 crore fine collected
In a decade, over 31 lakh traffic challans in Delhi have been resolved through Lok Adalat, collecting fines totaling over ₹27 crore.
In the past ten years, a significant number of traffic challans have been settled through Lok Adalat in Delhi, as revealed by information obtained via RTI. More than 31 lakh challans have been settled, resulting in the collection of over ₹27 crore in fines, demonstrating the effectiveness of this system for resolving smaller traffic violations outside of the court.
This data emerges just before the upcoming National Lok Adalat, originally scheduled for March 14 but postponed to March 22 for administrative reasons. The upcoming session is expected to handle a range of cases, including traffic challans, indicating the continued reliance on Lok Adalat for efficient dispute resolution in urban India.
Despite the considerable success in settling these cases, it is noted that not all traffic fines have been addressed, with nearly 4 crore cases still pending in Delhi. This backlog highlights the ongoing challenges in the traffic enforcement and adjudication system in the city, suggesting a need for further reforms to expedite the resolution of outstanding fines and violations.
