Threat to Bomb US Airport Made by South Korean Man Over Service Complaint
A South Korean man in his twenties was arrested for threatening to bomb Detroit airport, expressing dissatisfaction over services.
A 20-year-old South Korean man has been referred to prosecutors after being arrested for posting a bomb threat on the website of Detroit airport. The Cyber Investigation Team of the Seoul Metropolitan Police announced that the suspect was apprehended for public intimidation after he left the threatening message in English on March 20 of last year. The police initiated an international investigation following a request for assistance from the U.S. Homeland Security Investigations in January of this year, tracing the man who allegedly resorted to this threat after experiencing dissatisfaction with services at the airport.
The police emphasized the seriousness of public intimidation crimes, stating that such actions disturb public safety and create anxiety among citizens. They committed to tracking down and prosecuting individuals involved in such threats regardless of geographical boundaries, underlining their intention to take strong measures against threats related to large-scale events and gatherings. Even threats that may appear as mere jokes will be treated with severe consequences, including possible imprisonment, to deter such behavior.
The case illustrates the increasing international cooperation in combating threats and the legal ramifications of actions taken out of frustration. It highlights the importance of addressing customer dissatisfaction through appropriate channels rather than resorting to extreme measures that can lead to criminal charges. The swift action taken by both Korean and American authorities demonstrates a commitment to maintaining air travel safety and public trust.
