Kim Jong-un visits Russian deployment memorial for the third time this year... 'Completed in commemoration of the first anniversary of the liberation of Kursk'
Kim Jong-un has inspected the construction site of a memorial in Russia commemorating military deployments, highlighting its completion to coincide with the first anniversary of the liberation of Kursk.
Kim Jong-un, the Supreme Leader of North Korea, made his third visit this year to the construction site of the overseas military operation memorial in Russia on April 16, as reported by the Rodong Sinmun. During this visit, he indicated that the memorial would be completed in celebration of the first anniversary of the liberation of Kursk. According to the report, the construction work is at 93% completion, illustrating the North Korean leadership's vested interest in the memorial's significance and construction.
This particular memorial commemorates North Korean military involvement alongside Russia in the liberation of Kursk, which is situated near the Ukrainian border and has recently been a focal point of military conflict. Last year, the North Korean Central Military Commission publicly acknowledged the participation of the North Korean military in operations aimed at aligning with Russian interests, particularly in the context of countering alleged neo-Nazi forces in Ukraine. The completion of this monument is expected to be honored with a ceremony at the end of the following month.
Kim's repeated inspections of the memorial site underscore his personal investment in this project, reflective of North Korea's diplomatic ties with Russia amidst ongoing geopolitical tensions. Additional activities include visits to facilities where memorial sculptures are crafted and events honoring families of deployed soldiers. These engagements reflect a broader attempt to solidify North Korea's military narrative and its contributions to Russian military endeavors, which will likely resonate within domestic propaganda efforts as well as international posturing amid the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
