North Korea's Kim Jong-un has inaugurated Saebyeol Street in Pyongyang, honoring soldiers who fought alongside Russian forces in the Kursk region during a conflict with Ukraine.
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un inaugurated a new street named Saebyeol in Pyongyang, paying tribute to the soldiers who fought alongside Russian forces during their operations in the Kursk region against Ukrainian forces. This event highlights North Korea's close ties with Russia and their shared military history. The street dedication ceremony included the opening of approximately 50 apartment blocks intended for the families of the fallen soldiers.
During the opening, Kim Jong-un also presented housing certificates to the families of those who lost their lives in the Kursk operation, reinforcing the state’s commitment to honoring their sacrifices. The Saebyeol Street is part of a broader initiative to commemorate military achievements and to maintain a narrative of solidarity between North Korea and Russia amid ongoing geopolitical tensions. The street's name, which translates as 'morning star,' symbolizes hope and remembrance for the sacrifices made by these troops.
This event comes on the heels of Kim’s inspection of the newly established Memorial Museum of Combat Feats at Overseas Military Operations, which serves to commemorate soldiers deceased during similar military operations. The museum features a memorial wall, bronze sculptures, and a burial ground, emphasizing North Korea’s ongoing efforts to enhance its military legacy and boost national pride. This dedication not only reflects North Korea's military alliances but also illustrates the regime's strategy to cultivate national unity in times of international isolation.
