Janete Serafim Ribondi, a 31-year-old employee of a financial company, was arrested in Viana, Greater VitΓ³ria, on suspicion of scamming elderly clients in Castelo, Espirito Santo. The Police Civil reports that Ribondi targeted predominantly elderly individuals who struggled with reading or using the internet, exploiting their vulnerabilities to commit fraud. The arrest was made public on Monday, following a detailed investigation into her activities.
The incident that led to her arrest occurred on October 30, 2024, when a 64-year-old man handed over his bank card and PIN to Ribondi to assist him in obtaining a loan and withdrawing a benefit. However, after she escorted him to the bank to withdraw the money, she returned to the agency alone and withdrew nearly R$ 2,000 from his account. The fraud was ultimately unveiled through bank statement analysis and surveillance footage.
