Court condemns school in Cuiabá for irregular offer of EJA and EaD courses and 'sale' of diplomas

The Court of Mato Grosso has ruled against the Centro Educacional Cuiabá (CEDUC) for illegally offering educational courses and selling diplomas.

The court in Mato Grosso condemned the Centro Educacional Cuiabá (CEDUC) and three individuals associated with the institution for providing irregular courses in Adult Education (EJA) and Distance Learning (EaD). The courses fell short of the legally required curriculum hours and lacked proper authorization from the state education system. This decision reflects a serious breach of educational standards meant to protect students and ensure quality education.

Judge Bruno D’ Oliveira Marques issued the ruling, mandating a payment of R$ 50,000 in collective moral damages to the State Consumer Defense Fund. The judge's conclusion pointed out that the institution's operations were not only unauthorized but also transformed education into a commercial transaction, undermining the essence of pedagogical content delivery. The ruling emphasizes the necessity of accountability in educational institutions to ensure that they adhere to regulatory standards.

This civil action was instigated by the Public Ministry of Mato Grosso (MPMT) following complaints that CEDUC was issuing certifications without proper accreditation. This case serves as a critical reminder of the implications of educational malpractice and highlights the importance of maintaining rigorous standards in educational institutions, ensuring that they serve their intended purpose in society.
