Lady sues Peller, demands N395m for filming her without consent
A Lagos woman is suing TikTok influencer Habeeb Hamzat, known as Peller, for N395 million for allegedly filming her without consent and making defamatory remarks.
Osarobo Odigie, a resident of Lagos, has filed a lawsuit against the popular TikTok streamer Habeeb Hamzat, also known as Peller, claiming defamation, cyber harassment, and invasion of privacy. The lawsuit, which seeks N395 million in damages, arises from an incident that took place on January 6, 2026, at Folixxx Lounge. The claimants argue that Peller filmed Odigie without her permission and subsequently made disparaging comments about her online, leading to significant emotional distress and harm to her reputation.
The legal complaint was substantiated by a pre-action letter sent by Odigie’s legal representatives, which detailed the events leading to the lawsuit. According to the letter, Odigie was at Folixxx Lounge to purchase food when she was startled by Peller’s loud outburst. Following her attempt to move away, Peller approached her aggressively, questioning her actions. The alleged confrontation and subsequent recording have resulted in a significant breach of Odigie's privacy, prompting her to seek legal recourse.
This lawsuit highlights the increasing concerns surrounding privacy and consent in the digital age, particularly for individuals who may suddenly find themselves captured in online content against their will. As influencers gain popularity, the ethical implications of their behavior and the potential legal consequences of their actions are brought to the forefront, raising awareness about the need for greater accountability in content creation. The outcome of this case may set a precedent regarding personal privacy rights and influencer liability in Nigeria.
