Finnish Star Given Departure Papers from Switzerland
Hockey player Niko Huuhtanen will leave his current team EHC Biel-Bienne after this season due to disappointing performance, and teammate Jere Sallinen's future is also uncertain according to reports.
Finnish hockey player Niko Huuhtanen will leave EHC Biel-Bienne at the end of the season as announced by the team, with reports suggesting his performance did not meet expectations. Huuhtanen, a 22-year-old forward, had recently moved to Switzerland from North America, where he played in the AHL and ECHL. Despite being a seventh-round draft pick in 2021 by the Tampa Bay Lightning, he managed only two goals and one assist in ten games with Biel-Bienne, leading team management to conclude that he would not remain with the club for the next season. Team director Martin Steinegger indicated that the high expectations for foreign players in Switzerland can be overwhelming, particularly for young players like Huuhtanen.
