Prague announced when the Dvorecký Bridge will open. But it won't be for everyone
Prague's Dvorecký Bridge, designated for public transport, walking, and cycling, will officially open on April 18, with a public ceremony the day before.
The Dvorecký Bridge, located between Prague 4 and Prague 5, is set to begin operations for public transport starting April 18. Prior to this, a ceremonial opening will take place on April 17, allowing the public to engage with the new infrastructure. According to Jaromír Beránek, Deputy Mayor of Prague for Transport, the bridge is designed specifically for public transport, pedestrians, and cyclists, promoting eco-friendly transportation methods in the city.
Regular tram services will also be implemented on the bridge, with the introduction of two new lines, numbered 20 and 21. These lines will provide a vital connection between Modřany and the city center, enhancing the overall public transport network in Prague. This development aligns with the city’s efforts to improve connectivity and reduce reliance on individual car transport, particularly in urban areas.
The bridge will also allow access for emergency services, yet it is important to note that private vehicle traffic will not be permitted. The city's council is set to approve the official name of the bridge, which has garnered overwhelming support from Prague residents in an online survey, favoring 'Dvorecký Bridge' over alternative suggestions. This community engagement reflects a positive reception and anticipation for improved infrastructure in Prague.
