How to Name the New Bridge? Prague Residents Have Made It Clear, Anežka Česká Did Not Succeed
Prague residents have overwhelmingly chosen to name the new bridge between Prague 4 and Prague 5 as Dvorecký, rejecting the alternative name of Anežka Česká in a recent survey.
In a recent survey conducted by the Prague city authorities, residents decisively favored the name Dvorecký for the new bridge that connects Prague 4 and Prague 5. With approximately 78% of the votes, or 5,914 in total, the name Dvorecký triumphed over the alternative name of Anežka Česká, which garnered only 1,630 votes. The announcement was made by municipal spokesperson Vít Hofman, indicating a clear preference among the locals regarding the naming of public infrastructure.
The voting process was primarily conducted online through the Portal of Prague Citizens, but residents also had the option to vote in person at designated locations. A total of 7,595 people participated in the voting, with a record 7,299 votes being cast online. Jaromír Beránek, Prague's deputy mayor for transport, highlighted the overwhelming support for the name Dvorecký, reinforcing how public engagement plays a significant role in local governance and civic decisions.
The decision regarding the official naming will now rest with the city councilors, who will consider the survey results and recommendations from the geographical naming committee in the coming weeks, with the bridge set to open in April. This participatory approach not only reflects the community's input but also emphasizes the ongoing efforts of city officials like Beránek and cultural deputy Tomáš Slabihoudek to engage actively with the public in municipal matters.
