Collision between bus and van affects stop on General Rumiñahui highway
A school transport van and a passenger bus collided in Ecuador, causing significant traffic congestion and impacting a bus stop.
On the morning of March 16, a collision occurred on Ecuador's General Rumiñahui highway involving a school transport van and a passenger bus that operates the Quito-Valle de los Chillos route. The incident, which took place at the Orquídeas sector, happened around 6:53 AM, leading to a significant traffic jam and damage to a bus stop where passengers were waiting for transport towards the city.
The ECU911 emergency services received a community alert following the crash and dispatched personnel from the Metropolitan Agency of Quito (AMT) to manage the situation. During the collision, the passenger bus was left stuck at the roadside after impacting the bus stop, resulting in chaos as traffic control agents worked to manage the congestion that ensued. Other vehicles were also reported to have been affected by the incident.
In response to the accident, agents attempted to manage the heavy traffic that resulted from the closure of the right lane heading from Valle to Quito. Military and police personnel were deployed to patrol regions, including Los Ríos, to assist in the situation. The incident reflects ongoing concerns regarding traffic safety and infrastructure in Ecuador, highlighting the challenges faced in urban transport management and emergency response.
