This is how the tests of the anti-drone shield against attacks by illegal armed groups in Colombia will work

Colombian authorities will begin testing the National Anti-Drone Shield to enhance the military's defensive capabilities against drone attacks by criminal organizations.

Colombian authorities are set to initiate the testing of the National Anti-Drone Shield as part of efforts to bolster military defensive capabilities concerning drone technology. According to the report from the Ministry of Defense, the primary objectives of this defensive system will include detecting the presence of aircraft, anticipating aircraft operations, and effectively neutralizing such aircraft. The first phase of testing is scheduled to take place on April 10, focusing on the technological capabilities of the system aimed at protecting lives.

The impetus for this project comes in response to the alarming rise in the use of modified commercial drones by criminal groups, which have used these devices for armed attacks against civilians and law enforcement. Reports indicate that between 2024 and 2026, drone attacks by criminal organizations surged to 418 incidents. The modifications to these commercial drones to include explosives and surveillance cameras have significantly increased their threat level, making it essential for the military to implement countermeasures.

This initiative not only illustrates the Colombian government's commitment to addressing the evolving threats posed by criminal enterprises but also suggests a larger context of national security concerns in the region. As these armed groups continue to adapt, the Colombian military's ability to effectively counter such technology will be crucial in maintaining public safety and stability in the country.
