The Alytus police detained two men suspected of drug trafficking
The police in Alytus have arrested two men in connection with drug trafficking, seizing a substantial amount of narcotics valued at over 80,000 euros.
In Alytus, Lithuania, police apprehended two men suspected of drug trafficking after discovering approximately 4.2 kg of marijuana and 1.5 kg of a potent addictive substance called 3-chloromethcathinone (3-CMC), commonly known as 'crystal', in one of the men's bags. The total market value of the confiscated drugs is estimated to exceed 80,000 euros. During the investigation, authorities traced the drugs further, leading them to a BMW vehicle parked at a gas station, where an additional 10 grams of suspected cocaine was found.
As the investigation continued, law enforcement officials arrested a third individual, a 31-year-old man in Kaunas, who is believed to be connected to the illegal trade of these narcotic and psychotropic substances. Both of the primary suspects, born in 1995 and 2000, are known to the police, indicating prior encounters with law enforcement related to drug offenses. The arrested individuals have been charged with illegal possession of narcotic and psychotropic substances with the intent to distribute them, pointing to ongoing issues with drug-related crime in the region.
This incident highlights ongoing challenges in combating drug trafficking and substance abuse in Lithuania, as local authorities grapple with the growing prevalence of such narcotics. The involvement of multiple suspects suggests a broader network may be at play, prompting local law enforcement to intensify their efforts in tackling drug-related crimes and ensuring community safety.
