Latvian Champions Determined in Luge Sports
The Latvian luge champions were determined last weekend at the Sigulda ice track, as reported by the Latvian Luge Federation.
During the past weekend, the Sigulda ice track hosted the Latvian luge championships, where top athletes competed for national titles. In the men's singles category, Gints Bērziņš secured first place, finishing just 0.133 seconds ahead of Kaspars Rinkus, while Kristers Aparjods landed in third place, nearly a second behind the winner. In the women's event, Kendija Aparjode triumphed, with Margita Sirsniņa taking second place just 0.099 seconds later, and Zane Kaluma finishing third with a half-second gap.
In the men's doubles competition, Eduards Ševics-Mikeļševics and Lūkass Krasts emerged victorious by a slim margin, edging out Mārtiņš Bots and Roberts Plūme by only six thousandths of a second. The third-place was claimed by Edvards Marts Markitāns and Roberts Lazdāns, who finished 1.320 seconds behind the winners. The women's doubles race saw Marta Robežniece and Kitija Bogdanova taking the lead, followed by Anda Upīte and Madara Pavlova in second, and Amanda Ogorodņikova with Selīna Elizabete Zvilna in third place.
The championships also featured junior categories, highlighting the emerging talent in the luge sport within Latvia. The results not only celebrate the achievements of the athletes but also promote the sport's popularity, encouraging youth participation and fostering future champions.
