Latvian men's doubles luge team just outside the top 5 in the final World Cup event

Latvia's men's doubles luge team finished sixth in the last World Cup event of the season, narrowly missing the top five.

In the final leg of the luge World Cup, the Austrian team comprising Tomass Stie and Wolfgang Kindl took the victory, leaving Latvia's duo, Bots and Plūme, 0.383 seconds behind, finishing in sixth place. Notably, German athletes Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt, who had secured the overall season championship prior to this event, did not compete in this final round.

During the competition, Bots and Plūme started last in the first run and achieved the fifth-best time among 15 teams. Their rivals, Ševics-Mikeļševics and Krasts, finished in the top ten but were 0.706 seconds slower than the eventual winners. In the overall standings for the World Cup season, Bots and Plūme ended the season in fifth place, while Ševics-Mikeļševics and Krasts slipped to seventh.

The final event also highlighted the participation of Latvian female duos, Anda Upīte/Madara Pavlova and Marta Robežniece/Kitija Bogdanova, showing the breadth of Latvian talent in luge. As the men's and women's individual competitions continue with the first runs, the winners will only be determined in the second runs on Sunday, culminating in a team relay to conclude the season.
