The youth essay competition "Tomorrow's Estonia" held by Postimees announced its February winner, Iris Luik, a student at the University of Tartu. Her essay titled "It's Time to Stop Undervaluing Vocational Education" captured the essence of the importance of vocational training in contemporary society and argued for a re-evaluation of its significance in Estonia's educational framework. As a reward, she will receive a prize of 250 euros.
The competition also recognized other talented young voices, with Lotta Vaher securing second place for her essay titled "I Would Like to Live in Estonia Where Elements of Folk Costumes Do Not Surprise Anyone," which addresses cultural integration and the visibility of traditional attire in modern Estonia. Marek-Erich Grosberg from Tartu Applied College earned the third position with his essay discussing generational expectations titled "We Are Growing Up in a Generation That Doesn't Believe Hard Work Pays Off."
These essays reflect a broader dialogue within Estonian society regarding education, cultural identity, and the values placed on various forms of knowledge. The competition not only encourages youth to express their views but also acts as a catalyst for discussions about the future direction of Estoniaβs educational policies and cultural integration.
