A piano used by John Lennon to compose many Beatles hits was auctioned for $3.2 million, making it the most expensive Beatles-related item sold to date.

A piano that once belonged to John Lennon and was used to compose several of the Beatles' famous songs has set a record as the most expensive item associated with the band ever sold at auction. The auction took place in New York last week, where the coveted instrument fetched an impressive $3.2 million, exceeding all expectations from the auction house Christie's, which had predicted the item would sell for between $400,000 and $600,000.

According to Christie's, the vertical piano was utilized by Lennon during the era of the Beatles’ iconic album 'Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,' released in 1967. Among the classic songs penned on this instrument are 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds,' 'A Day in the Life,' and 'Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!' This historic item is a Victorian model made by the Broadwood manufacturer, adding to its charm and significance.

The piano was part of 'The Jim Irsay Collection: Hall of Fame,' which included numerous items from the Beatles and other notable artists, showcasing the cultural impact of the legendary band. The massive price tag not only signifies the sentimental and historical value of the instrument but also illustrates the ongoing enduring legacy of the Beatles in popular music and collectibles.
