Man Falls to His Death in Tenerife

A 41-year-old climber died after falling from a high cliff into a ravine in Tenerife, Spain.

A tragic accident occurred in Tenerife, Spain, where a 41-year-old climber died after falling from a considerable height into a ravine on Saturday evening. The incident took place around 7:30 PM in the Candelaria area of eastern Tenerife, prompting emergency services to respond after they received a call about a climber in distress who likely needed rescue. However, the rescuers were unable to reach the climber in time before he fell down the rocky wall into the ravine.

The terrain around the area was difficult, which hindered the rescue team's efforts to access the climber quickly. Due to the setting sun and the subsequent darkness, they had to suspend their operations for the night and planned to resume the next day. On Sunday, the victim was located using a drone, and his body was subsequently airlifted by helicopter from the scene, underscoring the challenges faced by emergency responders in such remote and rugged locations.

Falling accidents are not uncommon in the Canary Islands, highlighting the risks associated with climbing and hiking in these areas. Ilta-Sanomat previously reported a similar incident in early March where another man fell from a cliff into the sea in Fuerteventura. These incidents draw attention to the importance of safety measures for climbers and the inherent dangers of outdoor sports in challenging terrains like Tenerife.
