The Prado Museum reduces the maximum number of members per visitor group from 30 to 20
The Prado Museum has decreased the maximum number of visitors per group to enhance visitor experience amid record attendance.
In a bid to improve the quality of visits, the Prado Museum in Madrid has announced a reduction in the maximum number of members allowed in a visitor group, from 30 to 20. This change comes as the museum prepares for continuing increases in visitor numbers, having recorded a staggering 3.5 million visitors in 2025. The museum's director, Miguel Falomir, emphasized the need for a more comfortable visiting experience, likening overcrowded museum visits to traveling on a subway during rush hour.
Group visits currently account for 16.62% of total museum attendance, averaging 1,609 group visitors daily. Consequently, the museum aims to manage visitor flow more effectively by not only reducing group sizes but also directing group visits to less crowded time slots. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to maintain a high-quality experience for all visitors, especially during peak times.
As the Prado Museum continues to draw record numbers of art enthusiasts, these measures are crucial in ensuring that the visitor experience remains enjoyable and educational. The museum's leadership recognizes that maintaining a balance between accessibility and visitor comfort is essential for the institution's reputation and operational success in the future.
