Passenger trains between Maranhão and Pará will have onboard internet starting in July

Passenger trains on the Carajás Railway between Maranhão and Pará will offer onboard internet starting in July, marking an upgrade in service as part of the railway's 40th anniversary celebrations.

The Carajás Railway, administered by Vale, announced that its passenger trains will provide onboard internet services beginning in July. This initiative mimics the connectivity services seen in commercial aviation. The announcement coincided with the 40th anniversary of passenger transport on the Carajás line, which had a notable record of transporting 419,000 passengers in 2025, slightly below its peak of 423,000 in the previous year. In addition to rolling out internet services, Vale also confirmed that the frequency of service will increase to daily trains between São Luís and Parauapebas by next year, enhancing accessibility for travelers.

The railway aims to provide 4G internet coverage throughout its almost 900-kilometer stretch, allowing passengers to navigate and communicate while traveling. Additionally, passengers may opt for premium packages that include access to streaming services for a more comprehensive digital experience. Initially, only 14% of the railway had connectivity when the project commenced, but significant investments have been made to improve services, facilitating a more connected journey for all passengers.
