Game Companies Crossing Limits with Physical AI in the Virtual World
Korean game companies are venturing into new businesses to adapt to the era of physical AI by leveraging their unique strengths in creating virtual environments.
Korean game companies are actively exploring new business ventures in response to the rising importance of physical artificial intelligence (AI). These companies are using their extensive experience in building virtual worlds to develop new technologies or collaborate with defense industry firms. For instance, NC AI, a subsidiary of NCSoft, successfully demonstrated its 'World Foundation Model' (WFM), an AI model trained to understand real-world physical environments, achieving a 70% success rate compared to the highest global standards while utilizing only 25% of GPU resources, indicating high efficiency.
The interest in physical AI is not limited to NCSoft, as Krafton has also entered the field after signing a memorandum of understanding with Hanwha Aerospace to collaborate on research and development of key technologies, including physical AI, and establish a joint venture. Krafton founded the robotics research firm 'Ludo Robotics' in the U.S. last year and has progressively expanded its AI investments and capabilities, showing commitment to the physical AI sector.
As AI technology continues to advance from chatbot applications to physical interactions in the real world, both NC AI and Krafton are combining their established AI skills with their strengths in virtual world creation. With decades of experience in massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs) and popular titles like 'BattleGround' and 'Enjoy', these companies aim to leverage their unique expertise to create innovative solutions in the physical AI market.
