NC AI forms 'K-Physical AI Alliance'... Incorporating Lineage know-how
NC AI has launched the 'K-Physical AI Alliance,' a consortium involving 53 institutions aimed at pioneering physical artificial intelligence technology in South Korea.
NC AI has announced the formation of the 'K-Physical AI Alliance,' a consortium that includes 53 participating institutions such as physical AI technology companies, universities, and government-funded research organizations in South Korea. The initiative aims to leverage the expertise gained from developing popular games like 'Lineage' to drive innovation in the domestic manufacturing sector. The consortium will play a crucial role in a project managed by the National IT Industry Promotion Agency, focusing on the development of foundational models for physical AI.
The main goals of the consortium include overcoming the limitations of existing generative AI concerning physical hallucination and enabling robots to understand and act in the real world. This requires a deep comprehension of the laws of physics, essential for the successful application of AI in manufacturing environments. NC AI expressed its intent to establish a sovereign AI infrastructure for South Korea in the face of competition from global tech giants, indicating a national impetus behind the initiative.
Additionally, NC AI plans to utilize its extensive experience from game development, particularly in MMORPGs (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games) such as 'Lineage' and 'Aion,' to enhance physical AI development. The company highlighted that the reinforcement learning techniques employed in gaming, which allow for interaction with millions of users, align closely with the challenges of developing AI that can optimize actions in complex, real-world scenarios. Notable participants in the consortium include Real World, involved in developing robot foundation models, and Samsung SDS, among others.
