Kenya: Water Supply Resumes in Buruburu, Dandora and Kariobangi After Flood Damage

The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company has restored water supply to several neighborhoods after completing repairs to a major pipeline damaged by flooding.

The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) has announced the resumption of water supply in several areas including Buruburu, Dandora, and Kariobangi, following the completion of repair work on crucial infrastructure along Outering Road that was damaged by recent floods. This confirmation comes in light of a significant repair operation that aimed to restore basic services disrupted by the damaging effects of heavy rainfall.

The restoration of water supply is a critical development for residents in the affected neighborhoods such as Buruburu Phases 1 & 2, Kariobangi South, and parts of Mathare, who have experienced interruptions in their daily access to water. The utility had previously communicated the challenges faced due to flooding which impacted several infrastructural systems. As a result, NCWSC was quick to mobilize repair teams to work on restoring critical services in these densely populated areas.

Moreover, the utility indicated that while water supply has resumed in the aforementioned areas, repair efforts are still ongoing in others like Kiambiu and Korogocho where distribution lines remain to be addressed. They anticipate that full restoration will occur shortly, as repair activities are reportedly advancing. This situation highlights the importance of maintaining water infrastructure in urban settings to withstand natural disasters and ensure that essential services are uninterrupted for residents.
