Volkswagen is assembling an electric remedy. How does the cheap electric car differ from Škoda Epiq?

Volkswagen has introduced a new family of affordable electric cars, featuring the ID. Cross, which aims to compete with Škoda's Epiq.

Volkswagen has been working on an electric vehicle for the mass market, and recent developments show that they are ready to launch a series of affordable small electric cars this year. Among these, the ID. Cross was introduced as a masked prototype, aiming to capture a segment of budget-conscious consumers. Following the Škoda Epiq, this new SUV is considered a sibling to it, highlighting the competition and cooperation within the VW group.

The ID. Cross is said to share production facilities in Pamplona, Spain, just like the Škoda Epiq, suggesting a strategic partnership for efficient manufacturing. The expected production split between these models aims to be nearly 50-50, although initial output might favor Volkswagen slightly more. Such arrangements reflect Volkswagen's intent to leverage its existing resources to present competitive pricing and flexibility in production.

The success of the ID. Cross will largely depend on its pricing strategy compared to existing models within the VW group, particularly the Škoda Epiq. With the growing popularity of electric vehicles, affordability will be a crucial factor that could drive sales and consumer interest to Volkswagen’s new offerings, especially as the market evolves with increasing options for budget electric cars.
