Firefighters' Weekend: From Water Rescue Operations to Fire Extinguishing in Open Areas
Emergency responders in Lithuania were active over the weekend, dealing with multiple fire incidents and saved a sleeping resident from a kitchen fire in Vilnius.
Over the weekend, Lithuanian firefighters were engaged in several emergency situations, including a midnight rescue in Vilnius where they extinguished a kitchen fire and ensured the safety of a resident. At approximately 8:07 PM on Saturday, firefighters responded to an apartment building on Kovo 11-osios Street after reports of a burning smell in the stairwell. Upon gaining entry to the apartment where the smell originated, they found a pot on the stove engulfed in flames, while the owner was found asleep in another room. Thankfully, she was unharmed and was handed over to medical professionals.
Later that night, around 11:49 PM, another incident occurred in a multi-story building on Žirmūnų Street in Vilnius. Firefighters arrived to find thick smoke up to the fourth floor, and the front door of one apartment was ablaze. Emergency crews evacuated 20 residents, and although the flames mainly damaged the door of the apartment, there were no serious injuries reported, notably due to the absence of smoke detectors in both residences involved.
The following morning, a more severe incident took place in the Stakliškiai village of Prienai district, where a residential house was on fire at around 4:02 AM. Medics provided on-site assistance to the homeowner, who sustained injuries. The fire resulted in significant damage, destroying parts of the house and roof. These incidents highlight the crucial need for fire safety measures, including the installation of smoke detectors in homes to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
