Environmental inspectors identified violations during 'Garažiukas' raids

Environmental inspections at 'Garažiukas' found violations in both businesses and individuals, leading to numerous penalties and warnings.

In recent raids dubbed 'Garažiukas', environmental inspectors in Lithuania conducted checks on 110 economic entities, resulting in detected violations at 28 of these establishments. Consequently, 29 penalties and 11 warnings were issued. Additionally, inspectors also evaluated 55 individuals, finding 15 of them in violation of environmental regulations, leading to 13 penalties and 10 warnings, while investigations have been launched in 17 other cases. This demonstrates a strong enforcement effort by the environmental authorities to uphold regulations and norms.

The most commonly identified infractions pertained to the improper management of waste, highlighting a significant area of concern within environmental practices in the country. As the environmental inspectors emphasized, these violations can contribute to broader environmental degradation, which needs to be addressed thoroughly. The checks are part of a larger strategy to ensure compliance with environmental laws and to enhance accountability among both businesses and individuals.

In cases where the violations were not rectified during the inspection, administrative penalties were imposed. However, for minor infractions that were immediately corrected in the presence of the inspectors, verbal warnings were provided to both individuals and legal entities. This tiered approach indicates an effort by the authorities to educate and rectify, rather than just penalize, thereby fostering a collaborative environment for future compliance with environmental standards.
