Geumcheon Police Provide Financial Support for Voice Phishing Victims and Reporters

The Geumcheon Police Station in Seoul is collaborating with local financial institutions to offer financial assistance to those affected by voice phishing.

The Geumcheon Police Station in Seoul has announced the launch of a financial support initiative aimed at assisting victims of voice phishing scams. In collaboration with local financial institutions, this project, named the 'Voice Phishing Prevention and Recovery Financial Support Project,' seeks to aid victims in their economic recovery by providing benefits such as reduced loan interest rates (up to 0.3%) and preferential savings account rates (up to 0.2%). Additionally, individuals who promptly report suspected voice phishing transactions will also receive similar financial benefits, encouraging swift action to prevent actual financial losses.

This financial initiative will be supported by several financial institutions located in the Geumcheon District, including the Seoul Southwest Nonghyup Bank, Geumcheon Credit Union, and various Saemaul Geumgo branches. The project is set to run for one year, from April 1, 2026, to March 31, 2027, specifically targeting residents in Geumcheon District who have fallen victim to voice phishing scams or reported such cases. This strategic move is intended to not only provide financial recovery assistance but also to bolster crime prevention measures within the community.

According to Chief Baek Hye-kyung of the Geumcheon Police Station, voice phishing is not merely a financial scam but a serious crime that devastates the lives of citizens. By working with local financial institutions, the police aims to support the recovery of victims and enhance citizen engagement in reporting such crimes, thus contributing to overall crime prevention efforts in the area.
