Arrested for Assault While Disguised as Delivery Worker, Partially Denying Charges of Robbery with Injury
A 53-year-old man was arrested for assaulting a 76-year-old woman in Ikeda City while posing as a delivery worker, although he partially denies some of the charges against him.
On June 16, Osaka Prefectural Police arrested Yoshinori Oda, a 53-year-old from Nishinomiya City in Hyogo Prefecture, on suspicion of robbery causing injury and trespassing. Oda allegedly disguised himself as a delivery person to gain entry to a home in Ikeda City. After the 76-year-old female resident opened the door, he threatened her with a knife-like object, physically assaulted her, and inflicted injuries including bruises. He reportedly acknowledged that he committed the crime but denies having choked her.
According to the Special Investigation Unit, the incident occurred on June 4 at around 11:05 AM when Oda approached the residence asserting he was there to make a delivery. Upon requesting that the woman place a delivery in theๅฎ ้ ใใใฏใน (delivery box) outside, Oda claimed the box was too small and urged her to let him into the house instead. After entering, he assaulted her by kicking her in the face and head while brandishing the weapon, resulting in injuries to her jaw and ribs.
The situation escalated until the woman's daughter, hearing her mother's cries, came to her aid. Oda fled the scene without taking anything, but police identified him as a suspect based on footage from nearby security cameras. The case not only highlights the ongoing issue of home invasions in Japan but also raises concerns regarding the safety of elderly residents in their own homes, prompting discussions about preventive measures in local communities.
