Flood in Kėdainiai: firefighters provided assistance to two residents

Firefighters in Kėdainiai responded to emergencies caused by flooding, helping residents pump water from basements.

In Kėdainiai, Lithuania, firefighters were called to assist residents affected by severe flooding due to rising water levels. The emergency services received reports from Pernarava parish, where they were needed to pump approximately 60 to 70 centimeters of floodwater from a basement measuring 6 meters long and 8 meters wide. Despite prior preparations for the flood, residents faced significant losses as the water quickly inundated their basements within half an hour.

The firefighters then responded to another report from Dotnuva parish, where a pond overflowed into a home and yard on July 6 Street, isolating the residents inside. The firefighters dug a channel to redirect the floodwater to a drainage point and cleared leaves to improve water flow. This response demonstrates the urgency and effectiveness of local emergency services in managing such natural disasters.

Furthermore, Kėdainiai municipality reported another concern as a minor ice jam was observed near a pedestrian bridge in the city, with water levels recorded at 28.35 meters. Comparatively, this was an increase of 85 centimeters since the previous morning, indicating a concerning trend in water levels as ice floes float down the river, suggesting further potential flooding issues ahead for the community.
