31st AGROTICA-Piraeus Bank: Strong investment interest in greenhouses – Investments of over 540 million euros

Piraeus Bank's initiative to develop modern greenhouses has drawn notable investment interest, totaling over 540 million euros from 944 investors.

Piraeus Bank is witnessing significant investment interest in its greenhouse initiative, with 944 investors expressing interest and total investments projected to surpass 540 million euros. This was announced during the 31st International Agrotica Exhibition by the Bank's General Manager of Agricultural Banking, Alkiviadis Alexandrou, highlighting a growing trend in agricultural modernization.

The development of modern greenhouses is seen as a pivotal move to enhance agricultural productivity. Traditional greenhouses yield about five to seven tons of tomatoes per hectare, while advanced closed greenhouses can produce yields of 50 tons per hectare. Furthermore, these modern systems promise a reduction in operational costs by approximately 20%, alongside conservation of essential resources such as water and fertilizers, which are crucial in sustainable agriculture.

In response to the interest, Piraeus Bank is establishing a "greenhouse hub" aimed at fostering collaboration with university spin-offs, research institutions, and industry stakeholders. This initiative is designed to refine production processes and improve the commercial viability of agricultural outputs, ensuring that the sector not only grows but does so sustainably and profitably.
