31st AGROTICA - Piraeus Bank: Strong Investment Interest for Greenhouses – Investments Exceeding 540 Million Euros Underway
Piraeus Bank is experiencing significant investment interest in greenhouses, with estimates of total investments surpassing 540 million euros and 944 investors expressing interest.
Piraeus Bank has unveiled a robust investment program focused on greenhouse technology during an event at the 31st International Agrotica Exhibition. The program has attracted the interest of 944 investors, with the potential for collective investments exceeding 540 million euros. This initiative marks a significant movement toward advancing agricultural production efficiency in Greece, with modern greenhouse applications taking center stage.
Modern greenhouses utilize new technological applications that promise to greatly enhance productivity. For instance, while traditional greenhouses yield between five to seven tons of tomatoes per acre, contemporary closed greenhouses can produce as much as 50 tons while reducing costs by approximately 20%. This advancement also leads to substantial resource savings, such as water and fertilizers. The implications of such productivity improvements are crucial for the agricultural sector, as they directly address sustainability and food security issues in Greece.
In alignment with this investment strategy, Piraeus Bank is developing a 'greenhouse hub' in collaboration with university spin-offs, research institutions, and businesses. This hub aims to drive innovation and technological advancements in greenhouse farming, further enhancing Greece's position in the agricultural market. Through such initiatives, Piraeus Bank is not only contributing to economic growth but also fostering a sustainable agricultural ecosystem that can meet current and future challenges.
