War in Ukraine: Russia struck with drones and missiles affecting several regions of the country
Russia's attacks on Ukraine on Sunday resulted in at least five civilian deaths and injured at least 47 others, according to officials.
On Sunday, widespread attacks by Russia across Ukraine led to a tragic toll of at least five civilian fatalities and injuries to a minimum of 47 people, officials reported. The Ukrainian Air Force stated that Russian forces launched 97 drones overnight, with air defenses reportedly intercepting or neutralizing 90 of them. However, five drones managed to hit targets, causing debris to fall in two separate locations, raising concerns over the effectiveness of Ukraine's air defense systems.
In the Kherson region, the attacks resulted in one death and 17 injuries, including three children, as Russian forces targeted residential areas and infrastructure, damaging six apartment buildings and 21 private homes. The brutality of the strikes not only emphasizes the ongoing risks to civilians in Ukraine but also the continued strategy of Russian forces to escalate attacks against non-military targets, which has drawn international condemnation and calls for accountability.
Similarly, in the Kharkiv region, two individuals were killed and two others injured, which included emergency medical personnel. Reports indicate that a 63-year-old woman was injured in Kupiansk amidst the violence. The Zaporizhzhia region also faced severe bombardment, with two fatalities and 22 people injured reported. Officials there documented 735 strikes across 43 localities in the region over the past day, received 405 reports of damage to homes, infrastructure, and vehicles β underlining the devastating impact of the ongoing war on daily life in Ukraine and the dire humanitarian situation it entails.
