Seoul Turns 'Red' on BTS Concert Day... Why Not the Symbolic 'Purple'?

On the occasion of BTS's concert, Seoul will be illuminated in red instead of the iconic purple color of the group, as the new album's theme color is red.

As Korea's beloved boy band BTS prepares for their performance in Seoul after a four-year hiatus, the city is set to light up in red for the event, scheduled for the 21st at Gwanghwamun. The Seoul city government announced various programs aimed at welcoming global fans, known as ARMY, who will visit the capital for the concert. From 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM on the concert dates, 15 major landmarks across Seoul, including Sevit Island and Namsan Tower, will showcase vibrant lighting to commemorate this comeback.

Interestingly, the lights will shine in red, a departure from BTS's traditional purple. City officials explained that red was chosen at the request of the entertainment agency HYBE to match the color scheme of BTS's new album "Arirang." This decision aims to create a visual spectacle, transforming the city into an expansive concert stage. Additionally, a special fountain show will run at Banpo Bridge on the 21st and 22nd, synchronized with music from BTS, and featuring LED lights, further enhancing the celebratory atmosphere.

From early next month, a themed light walk along Cheonggyecheon will highlight BTS's symbols, and a K-pop walking tour connecting various filming locations and HYBE’s headquarters will also be introduced. These tours will showcase significant elements of BTS's journey through three distinct routes, complete with guided explanations available for booking online, thereby enriching the cultural experience for both locals and tourists visiting Seoul during this momentous event.
