The Moving Reservoir in Yongin, a Famous Sunset Spot, to be Developed into the Largest Lake Park in the Country
Yongin city is planning to develop the Moving Reservoir area into the largest lake park in South Korea, significantly larger than the existing Gwanggyo Lake Park.
Yongin city in South Korea has announced plans to create the largest lake park in the country at the Moving Reservoir, known for its stunning sunset views. The new park area will cover over 4.8 million square meters, which is 2.4 times larger than the existing Gwanggyo Lake Park. The project aims to connect the reservoir with the Songjeong Stream walking path, creating a landmark park that reflects the city's natural beauty and serves as a remarkable recreational space for citizens and visitors alike.
The Moving Lake Park is strategically positioned near the upcoming Samsung Semiconductor National Industrial Complex and the public housing area, indicating its importance for urban development in Yongin. The city envisions this park as a multi-functional space that includes water leisure facilities, a cultural complex, a camping area, and an arboretum, promoting a blend of residential, work, and leisure activities. This initiative aligns with the city’s long-term urban planning strategy detailing green spaces and recreational facilities.
Moving Reservoir, famous for its scenic views of the water at sunset, has not been utilized for many years due to regulatory restrictions but is set to open up new possibilities following the removal of these regulations in December 2024. The local government is planning to establish a walking path along the reservoir’s perimeter combining both cultural and recreational features. A city representative asserted the ambition to transform the Moving Lake Park into a world-class waterfront park suited to Yongin’s growing reputation as a center of the global semiconductor industry.
