Turkey has established itself as a leader in the military drone market, currently holding approximately 65% of global market share, according to the Turkish Minister of Industry and Technology, Mustafa Varank. This significant share has been largely attributed to the innovations developed by Baykar, a notable Turkish drone manufacturer. The minister expressed pride in Turkey’s advancements in unmanned systems, highlighting that the early focus on unmanned aviation for counter-terrorism has been crucial in the sector’s rapid development.
In recent discussions, Varank also emphasized the growing role of suicide drones in modern warfare, indicating their increasing prevalence in military strategies worldwide. He pointed out that the Turkish defense industry's commitment to innovation has led to the introduction of new products at an impressive rate, with new offerings being launched every few weeks. This suggests that Turkey is not only maintaining its current market position but is also actively expanding its capabilities in defense technologies.
Looking ahead, the Turkish government aims to deepen its expertise in unmanned systems, radar technologies, and missile systems, with an emphasis on increasing production levels.
